Hello Listeners, my name is Iris and I’d like to tell you a little about myself. For all my working life I’ve been a “people person”. I started as a telephonist in a well known London theatre in the wonderful days of variety. So of course now on Angel Radio, when I play songs from that era, I can revive happy memories of the people I met and recall incidents of some of those wonderful Stars – Donald Peers standing on the magnificent staircase meeting the audience, then dashing down the back stairs because he was late. Ronnie Hilton, locked out of his dressing room and, so many others.
When the variety theatre closed down, I then worked as a telephonist at the Royal Northern Hospital, always the one for drama. I have a few interests and hobbies, playing bowls, a great way to keep fit, not only does it gently exercise all the muscles, it’s a great way to exercise the mind too. Books, is another hobby, action, adventure, a good murder story, “who dunnits” – although the authors today seem to have lost the plot!! Except, for Dick Francis. One of my very favourites, a local author I really like, is Pauline Rowson.
I would like to mention how I first found Angel Radio. I had returned to the south, from the Midlands when my husband retired from the police force. In the removal my radio had been broken, so I bought a new one and trying to find Radio 2 I suddenly heard “Dick Barton”. Now I knew I had returned to home ground but I hadn’t expected to go back in time. Anyway, I managed to track the radio station down and have been here ever since, and long may it last!
So keep listening, ‘phoning and talking about us and, thank you for your wonderful support.
All the very best - Iris
